I’ve lived in Woodbury for over 20 years now. When I was pregnant with my first son, my husband got a job at 3M, so we drew a 20-minute circle around the campus to decide where to live. Schools mattered the most to us, so Woodbury quickly became our focus.
What surprised me when we started house hunting was how many different options existed within the same price ranges: different home styles, lot sizes, and new/existing!
We ended up buying a home on 1.7 acres off of Glen Road and lived there for 17.5 years before we moved to Wedgewood. Woodbury offers everything from tight-knit neighborhoods where kids walk to each other’s houses to secluded properties where you barely see neighbors.
Why I Love Woodbury
- Convenience
- ~20 minutes to downtown St. Paul
- ~30 minutes to downtown Minneapolis
- ~10–15 minutes to cross into Wisconsin
For travel, errands, and commuting, it’s incredibly central.
- Shopping & Everyday Living
Woodbury has almost everything you need for daily life:- Costco
- Target (2!)
- Sam’s Club
- Walmart
- Home Depot
- Whole Foods
- Trader Joe’s
- TJMaxx / Marshalls / HomeGoods (What really matters to girls anyway)
- Many strip malls & plazas with specialty shops
No, it’s not filled with luxury boutiques—but realistically, most of us don’t shop luxury every day. Day-to-day life here is easy.
- Restaurants
Tons of variety. Some residents wish for more authentic international restaurants, but if you look, there are plenty of great spots. - Schools & Programs
Woodbury is part of South Washington County (ISD 833). I especially loved-- Community Education
- Early Childhood programs(ECFE:affordable and excellent)
- Parks & Rec programs (also very reasonably priced)
- Central Park indoor playground and library
- Parks & Outdoors
Woodbury has trails, lakes, neighborhood parks, sports facilities, and an indoor playground for winter. Central Park was one of our favorites when the boys were little and now it has been renovated! - Diversity & Community
Woodbury has become wonderfully diverse. My kids are half Korean, and we never felt out of place, just part of the community. - Housing Options
Woodbury still offers:- New construction
- Resale homes
- Townhomes
- Acreage properties
And compared to other Minnesota cities with strong schools, prices in Woodbury are still reasonable.
- Faith & Community Spaces
There are many great churches here. Our family attends King of Kings Lutheran on Radio Drive.
Final Thoughts
Woodbury is convenient, diverse, and full of housing options. Schools are strong, programs for kids are abundant, shopping is easy, and the location is ideal for both Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Would I recommend Woodbury? Absolutely. A thousand percent.
