Why Wedgewood Is My Favorite Place to Live in Woodbury?

I have been living in almost 4 years now, and I understand why people who move here tend to stay and my buyers so often tell me this is where they really want to be. Wedgewood has a way of feeling tucked away even though it’s right in the center of Woodbury. I can leave my house and be at coffee, groceries, dinner, or Target in five minutes — or I can simply walk out my front door and be on the trail around Colby Lake without starting the car.

I live in Wedgewood Heights. I’m close enough to borrow a tool or a cup of olive oil from a neighbor, but when I look out my windows to the backyard, all I see are trees. I adore my neighbors… I just don’t need to see them before coffee.

The design of Wedgewood is another thing people notice immediately. Streets curve with the landscape, lots are positioned at angles, and mature trees frame almost every home. Houses aren’t lined up like matchboxes on a checkerboard. You can tell this is a community that was planned thoughtfully instead of being built quickly.

At the center of the neighborhood is Prestwick Golf Club, a public 18-hole championship course recognized as Golf Course of the Year by the Minnesota Golf Course Owners Association, rated 4½ stars and a “Best Place to Play” by Golf Digest and named one of the top public golf experiences in Minnesota by the Star Tribune. Even if you don’t golf, the fairways winding through the neighborhood give Wedgewood a park-like atmosphere, and The Wick Pub in the clubhouse has become a favorite meet-up spot.

I don’t play golf (yet), but I love looking at the course. It’s just like my swimming pool — I don’t use, but it makes me happy every time I see it.

Wedgewood is organized into four official districts: Wedgewood Heights (where I live), Wedgewood Valley (along Prestwick), Wedgewood Shores (near Colby Lake), and Wedgewood Park. Locals also use the term “Wedgewood North” for the area north of Lake Road, which includes Shores and nearby streets.

On the west side of the neighborhood, Middleton Elementary and Lake Middle School sit right within the community, connected by sidewalks and trails, making it common to see a cheerful line of bikes, backpacks, and dogs during the school year.

The homes themselves are another reason Wedgewood stands out. There’s an uncommon mix of detached rambler villas, townhomes, and larger custom single-family homes. Many back to trees, fairways, or open space, which adds to the feeling of privacy. Recent listings and sales commonly range from the mid-$600,000s into the $1M+ range for single family homes, with select premium properties occasionally reaching toward $2M for its value even though they are not on the market for sale.

The walking trail, just a little over 2 miles around Colby lake is another benefit living in Wedgewood. We, as a family, started to go for a walk more since we moved here! Beautiful homes, and the ability to live quietly while still being close to everything, it’s a rare balance, and we LOVE it!
